Ti -6Al-4V Titanium Forging

 

 

Ti-6Al-4V titanium forgings are manufactured from a titanium alloy composed of 6% aluminum and 4%vanadium. This alloy is highly corrosion-resistant and offers excellent strength, hardness, and toughness. The Ti-6Al-4V alloy is often used to manufacture components for aerospace and medical applications due to its high strength-to-weight ratio and its ability to withstand extreme temperatures. Ti-6Al-4V titanium forgings can be hot or cold formed, machined, and welded. It is now the world's most outstanding metal in the field of titanium alloys.

 

Ti-6Al-4V titanium forgings have the advantages of both α and β titanium alloys, i.e. good plasticity, good thermal strength (400°C in long-term work), strong resistance to seawater corrosion, simple production process, can be welded, hot and cold forming, and can be strengthened by quenching and ageing treatment. It is mainly used in aircraft compressor discs and blades, naval pressure resistant shells, large size forgings, die forgings, etc.

 

After the titanium forgings are made into parts, they are subjected to different forces, importance and working conditions in use, and different materials and metallurgical processes. Therefore, titanium forgings in different parts according to the above conditions, according to the requirements of the sector for classification, titanium forgings in different sectors and standards in the classification of different. However, the quality inspection of titanium forgings cannot be separated from two kinds of inspection, i.e. appearance quality inspection and internal quality inspection. But titanium forgings due to different categories, specific inspection items, inspection quantities and inspection requirements are also different.

Solid phase point: 1605+/-10°C(2920+/-20°F)

Coefficient of resistance: ~1.5μΩ*m(-250℃)

~1.75μΩ*m(Room temperature)

~1.9μΩ*m(530℃)

Magnetism: Ti-6Al-4V titanium forging vanadium is not

 

 

Strength of annealed Ti-6Al-4V titanium forgings at normal room temperature:

Maximum tensile strength: 1380-2070Mpa (200-300ksi)

Compressive yield strength: 825-895Mpa (120-130ksi)

Maximum shear strength: 480-690Mpa (70-100ksi)

Temperature enhanced workability: the higher the temperature, the lower the strength.

Fatigue limit: The fatigue limit of Ti-6Al-4V titanium forgings is mainly influenced by the microstructure and surface condition. The general fatigue limit indices for annealed machined materials are shown below.

Bright: 400-700Mpa (60-100ksi)

Notched: 140-270Mpa (20-40 ksi)

Fracture toughness

The fracture toughness of Ti-6Al-4V titanium forgings is intermediate between aluminium alloys and steel. The ELI grade of Ti-6Al-4V titanium forgings has a higher toughness than the normal grade.

 

Ti-6Al-4V titanium forgings also have good low temperature working performance. Below -196 ℃ still has good toughness, used in the manufacture of low-temperature high-pressure containers, such as rockets and missiles, such as liquid hydrogen fuel tanks.
