brief introduction

GR5 alloy is a medium-strength α-β two-phase titanium alloy containing 6% of the α-stabilizing element AI and 4% of the β-stabilizing element V. The alloy has an excellent combination of properties, and has gained the widest application in the aviation and aerospace industries. The alloy has an excellent overall performance and is most widely used in the aviation and aerospace industries. The alloy has a long working temperature of up to 400°C and is mainly used in the aerospace industry for the manufacture of engine fan and compressor disks and blades, as well as important load-bearing components such as beams, joints and spacer frames in the structure of the aircraft.

The main semi-finished products of GR5 titanium alloy are bars, forgings, thick plates, thin plates, profiles and wires. The alloy is mainly used in the annealed condition, and can also be strengthened to some extent by solid solution aging treatment, however the hardened cross section generally does not exceed 25mm.

 

The alloy has good process plasticity and superplasticity and is suitable for a wide range of pressure machining and forming. The alloy can also be welded and machined in various ways.

Products preformance

The composition of titanium alloy GR5 material is Ti-6Al-4V, which belongs to (α+β)-type titanium alloy with good comprehensive mechanical and mechanical properties, and high specific strength.The strength of GR5 is sb=1.012GPa, and the density is g=4.4*103, and the specific strength is sb/g=23.5, whereas the specific strength of alloy steel is sb/g less than 18.The thermal conductivity of titanium alloy is low. The thermal conductivity of titanium alloy is 1/5 of that of iron and 1/10 of that of aluminum, and the thermal conductivity of GR5 l=7.955W/m-K.

 

(1) GR5 coefficient of thermal expansion:

The coefficient of thermal expansion (coefficient of thermal expansion) of GR5, based on the average temperature of the ambient temperature, is generally about 10.5 x 10-6/K for GR5 alloys in the range of ambient temperatures (20°C) to 300°C.
In special cases, i.e., temperatures greater than 300°C, the coefficient of thermal expansion of GR5 is affected by thermal expansion and is about 13 x 10-6/K.
The magnitude of the effect of thermal expansion is related to the content of titanium alloy in the alloy. If the content of titanium alloy in the alloy is lower, the coefficient of thermal expansion will be greatly reduced.

 

(2) Mechanical properties of GR5 titanium alloy:

Tensile strength σb / MPa ≥ 895, the specified residual elongation stress σr0.2 / MPa ≥ 825, elongation δ5 (%) ≥ 10, section shrinkage ψ (%) ≥ 25.

 

(3) GR5 titanium alloy chemical composition.

GR5 containing titanium (Ti) balance, iron (Fe) ≤ 0.30, carbon (C) ≤ 0.10, nitrogen (N) ≤ 0.05, hydrogen (H) ≤ 0.015, oxygen (O) ≤ 0.20, aluminum (Al) 5.5 ~ 6.8, vanadium (V) 3.5 ~ 4.5.

Products charactertics

When GR5 titanium alloy is heated for a long time below 430℃, a very thin and protective oxide film is formed. As the heating temperature increases, the oxide film thickens and becomes less protective. After heating the alloy at 700°C for 2 h, the oxide film thickness reaches 25 μrn. A sparse oxide layer is formed at temperatures above 800°C. The thickness of the oxide film reaches 25 μrn. After heating at 1000°C for 1h, the thickness of the oxide layer reaches 0.65mm.

As the oxygen content increases, the tensile strength of GR5 alloy increases significantly, and the tensile plasticity and fracture toughness decrease sharply. The high oxygen content also leads to poor welding performance. Therefore, under the premise of ensuring the level of strength, the oxygen content should be controlled in a low range. Especially for low-temperature work of various containers, should be used w (o) ≤ 0.13% of the GR5 alloy materials.
