Gr6 is a typical alpha alloy with a nominal composition of Ti-5Al-2.5Sn, with aluminium and tin playing a role in stabilising alpha and solid solution strengthening.
Gr6 alloy has medium strength, its creep resistance, thermal stability is also good. Long-term working temperature up to 450.℃, short-time working temperature up to 800 ~ 850℃
It cannot be strengthened by heat treatment, but only by solid solution strengthening. The strength at room temperature is low, but the strength and creep limit at high temperature (500-600°¢) is the highest. Stable organisation, oxidation resistance good resistance to corrosion and cutting. Good workability, poor stamping properties.
The titanium alloy Gr6 with very low clearance elements maintains a certain plasticity at -253°C. The low temperature performance is also particularly good. Titanium alloys are chemically active at high temperatures and are prone to chemical reactions with hydrogen and oxygen in the air, generating hardened layers. The modulus of elasticity of titanium alloys is about 1/2 that of steel, and the modulus of elasticity is small. The thermal conductivity of various titanium alloys is about 1/4 that of nickel, 1/5 that of iron and 1/14 that of aluminium, which is about 50% lower than that of pure titanium, and the thermal conductivity is very small. These are all excellent properties for aerospace manufacturing.
For parts in corrosive media up to 400°c,e.g. aircraft skeletons, ship blades, etc..
For forgings and parts up to 500°c, short time use up to 900°, also for ultra-low temperature parts (-253°), such as ultra-low temperature containers
For long term use below 500°c, e.g. engine engine compressor discs and blades.
